May 27, 2020- Have you tried the Hawaii Farm Bureau's Farm to Car program? It was rapidly set up to give our community a safe way to access local produce during the covid-19 pandemic. While FoHI's mission is to bring the natural and cultural resources of the Hawaiian Islands NWR to you, we are also aware of the new environment our community needs to navigate. While we don't have the capacity to help in a big way, we are happy that we are able to contribute in a small way by donating FoHI bags so you can pick up your food safely.
December 29, 2019 - Did you know you can visit Laysan in Denver? Check out the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to step onto the shores of Laysan Island and sit amongst the seabirds. FoHI's Chair and Treasurer visited in 2019 and both enjoyed the exhibit while learning about seabirds that can be found in other areas of the world as well.
October 12, 2019- Board members Nicole Galase and Ilana Nimz, with FoHI webmaster David Golden, attended a beach cleanup in Kahuku, Oahu, with environmental advocate and backpacking Queen, Pattie Gonia. We shared information about FoHI with attendees, and learned more about the plastic crisis. In partnership with REI, a mini documentary about marine debris and plastic pollution was created. September 12-16, 2019 - Board Members Ilana Nimz and Stephanie Levins participated in the National Wildlife Refuge Friends gathering in Homer, Alaska. The team connected with Friends from Hawaii, Alaska, and the Pacific Northwest to learn from each other and improve our organizations. Representatives from US Fish and Wildlife Service were also present for discussions and action planning.

April 26, 2019 - Board Members Nicole Galase, Stephanie Levins and Asher Loring attended the UH Hilo Earth Day. They welcomed attendees to talk story about the Refuge, identify the native Hawaiian names of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and participate in a coloring activity (created by Board member Ilana Nimz).
February, 2019 - FOHI Board Member attended the Pacific Seabird Group Annual Meeting in Kaua‘i, Hawai’I, at which she hosted a booth to hand out FoHI merchandise and educate booth visitors about the NW Hawaiian Islands.
July 24-26, 2018 - Board members Nicole Galase, Asher Loring and Ilana Nimz learned the latest in conservation issues and progress at the Hawaii Conservation Conference. They connected with FIsh and Wildlife Public Affairs Officer Megan Nagel at the Papahanaumokuakea table.
June 30, 2018 - Board members Ilana Nimz and Heather Smith-Lee attended the free screening of, "Albatross." Lively discussion was held with panel members Lindsay Young (Biologist and Exec. Director of Pacific Rim Conservation) , Kahi Pacarro (Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii) and filmmaker Chris Jordan. January 2018 - Several FOHI Board Members attended the Māhuahua pū Conference in Kauai, Hawai’i, hosted by USFWS and NWRA to discuss challenges shared by Hawaiian and Alaskan Refuge Friends groups and to develop partnerships within the Northeast Pacific region.

January, 2016 - FOHI Board President attends NWRA’s D.C. Fly-In training week to talk to Hawai’i legislators about the Refuge and the need for increased USFWS funding.
August 2014- Several FOHI Board Members were invited by the National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA) to attend and speak at the Honolulu public hearing for the expansion of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
